Multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter Martin Gilmore will present the music of American Cowboys at Scotts Bluff National Monument. The program, a mix of music and stories, will explore the origin and evolution of the songs from Irish and English ballads, mixed with Black spirituals and indigenous music, and peppered with Spanish and German textures. Cowboy songs embody the triumph and struggles of the West and the complicated and dynamic history of the country. The program will also link the influence of the culture of cowboys to their influential music which informed much of the music of the 20th century, and even into modern times.
