Kent “Bubba” Janicke

A graveside celebration of life for 40-year old Kent “Bubba” Janicke will be held Saturday, August 12, 2023 at 1:00 at the Rushville Cemetery in Rushville, NE, with Dr Russ Seger officiating. 

The Celebration of life will continue at the American Legion in Rushville immediately after the service.

Kent always dreamed of finishing his college degree, so to honor that goal a designated trust fund is being created to support the future education of his nieces and nephews in his memory.

Kent George Janicke arrived into this world on August 7, 1982 in Gillette, Wyo, to Mark and Temple Janicke and a family who loved and adored him. He  left this earth unexpectedly on June 23, 2023 at the age of 40.

Kent – lovingly called “Bubba” by his sister, niece and nephew –  spent much of his early years on the farm with his grandparents, Edward (who Kent called “Friend”) and Judy Bolek, east of Rushville, NE. It was one of his favorite places on earth. 

In 1988, Temple married Darin Garman – who became another parent to him. Kent attended school in Rushville from 1st through 9th grades, then sophomore year he moved to Colorado for his sophomore year to be with his dad, Mark, and his brother, Aaron. 

He graduated from Westminster High School in 2001, actually finishing his coursework early in December of 2000 so that he could work full-time on high steel construction, a job he had worked summers with his dad, Mark, since he turned 16. 

Kent excelled at steel work (even though it scared his mother to death) and was a Steel Union lead connector by the time he was 19 years old. He was most proud of helping construct the federal building in downtown Denver. 

After a few years working construction, Kent decided to go to college and enrolled at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, CO. to pursue a degree in engineering. While attending the university, he met Jamie, who he would marry on June 11, 2011. They would later divorce.

Shortly before their wedding, Kent accepted a position with Boulder Scientific, where he worked for more than 12 years and rose to a supervisory position. During this time, he acquired every welding certification with the exception of underwater and boiler. He was also a certified welding inspector and instructor.

Kent was an avid savior of all things amphibian with a special love for toads and turtles. He loved hiking and camping in the mountains of Colorado, playing his guitar, a good craft beer, sushi, and first, tormenting his brother and sister, then later, his niece and nephew. 

His heart and his presence were so big and the hole that is left in our family and our hearts can never be filled.

Kent is grieved by his grandfather Edward “Friend” Bolek; Parents Mark Janicke (Viasney Cordoba) and Temple Bolek, Darin (Amy) Garman; Siblings Aaron Janicke (Rachel Naasz) and Brookley (Jake) Gjerset; niece Kayleigh Loftus-Gjerset; nephew Kaysen Gjerset; aunts Shauna Beguin and Jama Bolek; uncles Bruce Janicke and Greg Janicke; former wife Jamie Janicke; Cousins Bailey (Loren) Swanson family; Teale (Ty) Olsen family; Trace Beguin; and many other cousins and friends. Kent was greeted in heaven by his grandmothers Judy Bolek and Kathryn Janicke; his grandfather George Janicke; Great-grandparents Ed and Fern Bolek and Jim and Buzz Dobry; Aunt Melody Janicke; Baby Cousin Benjamin Janicke. and his beloved dog Mojo.
