Box Score
The Chadron FNBO Nationals dropped their opener at the Nebraska American Legion Class B Senior State Tournament in Pierce, falling to the Wahoo State Bank Reds 7-1 in their first state appearance in 16 years.
Heavy rain overnight and early Saturday morning caused wet grounds that led the day’s scheduled to be pushed back an hour.
The Nationals drew first blood in the 3rd when Quinn Bailey singled, stole 2nd, moved to 3rd on a bunt, and scored on a SF by Trey Hendrickson, but Wahoo tied it in the bottom of the inning on a wild pitch.
It could have been a lot worse as Chadron got a force-out at home and a ground out to the pitcher after starter Kobe Bissonette had loaded the bases on 2 walks, a single, and a hit-batter.
It remained tied until the 5th when Wahoo scored 4 times as Bissonette again ran into control issues and bad luck. He walked 4, gave up a pair of infield singles, and committed a run-scoring throwing error.
Cade Buskirk came in to get the last out of the inning, but was touched for a pair of 2-out runs himself in the 6th on a double, hit-batter, and 3 singles.
Wahoo had 8 hits, but left 11 men on base as Bissonette walked 6 and hit 2 batters. Broc Barry had a perfect day at the plate with 2 hits and a walk in 3 times up while Quinn Bailey was 2-3 and added his steal.
Chadron now faces host Pierce at noon MT in an elimination game. Pierce lost to Plattsmouth 9-3. Also, Wayne beat York 7-4 and Ogallala fell to Springfield 2-1.
