A Celebration of Life and Time of Remembering for Christa Turner will be held Friday, Sept 1, 2023 from 6-8:00 pm in the banquet room of the Country Kitchen Restaurant in Chadron.
Anyone who would like to pay tribute to Christa’s memory and spend some time celebrating the joy of her life is invited to join the family Friday.
The family knows the love for Christa is spread far and wide, so if you are unable to attend but would like to send cards of remembrance, do so to either Aly Crow, 120 Ann Street Chadron, NE 69337 Chadron or Amy Scherbarth, 115 Horseshoe Drive, Chadron, NE 69337
Christa Ann Turner was born on January 15, 1958, to Jan McDonald in Marion, IN, and passed away August 27, 2023.Soon after Christa was born, the family relocated to Colorado, where she spent the remainder of her childhood and adolescence. While attending high school, Christa met and fell in love with Mathew Turner.
Christa and Mat were soul mates and their love soon expanded to include a beautiful baby boy, Heath Turner, in 1976. Christa loved being a mother and welcomed her next son, Joshua Turner, in 1978. While Christa loved her family with her whole heart and soul, that joy was unfortunately wrought with tragedy. In 1978, Heath passed at age two, and shortly after in 1979 her husband, Mat, passed as well.
Despite the unimaginable hardships and sorrow presented to her as a 21-year-old, Christa found a way to persist for her son, Josh. The two took on the world as a pair for several years until Christa met her next husband, William “Bill” Crow. Together, they welcomed a sweet baby girl, Amy, in 1991 in Greeley, CO.
Christa and Bill married 3 years later. Josh joined the army, then lived primarily on the East Coast while Christa, Bill, and Amy eventually moved to Kimball, NE. While in Kimball, they added to their family once more with another daughter, Aly, in 1998.
In 2006, Christa fell in love with the scenery, nature, and history surrounding Fort Robinson State Park, and moved to Crawford with her two daughters. A few years later, Christa settled in Chadron, where her oldest daughter, Amy, had married Colten Scherbarth and had three children: Graesynn, Gwenny, and Griffyn.
Christa’s youngest daughter, Aly, and partner Wes Roberts also had a daughter, Marzia Roberts, in Chadron while Josh, his wife, Dee, and their children Mat, Heath, and Jordyn live in Virginia.
Christa’s grandchildren filled her with wondrous joy unlike any other she had experienced. She took extraordinary pride in being a Grandma, and everyone around her always got to experience the joy of Christa sharing stories about their most recent adventures or life events. Christa was never hesitant to share the happiness her grandchildren brought her with others.
Certainly, the most memorable trait most will recall about Christa is her smile, sense of humor, and the fun she brought to a room. Her laughter and smile will forever live in the hearts of everyone lucky enough to call her a friend, coworker, or neighbor.
Her kindness was shown to all she met, and she always made sure to ask anyone she ran into about their days, lives, families, and anything else they may have going on, all with her ever present Diet Pop in hand.
In addition to the care she showed to the humans around her, Christa also loved every animal she had the chance to meet. She was a definite dog person, and all the dogs she cared for over the years meant the whole world to her. Her most recent puppy, Summer, accompanied her everywhere and doubled the joy she was spreading everywhere she went.
Christa loved backroad drives, the simplicity and serenity of rural life, and the majestic beauty of the area she called home, so next time you find yourself taking in the wonder of a sunset over a ridge of pine trees, think of Christa.
The world lost the light of Christa on August 27th, and it is certain that the lives she touched will forever be changed by the mark she left behind. Her memory will continue to live on in her beloved grandchildren and children as well as the countless friends, coworkers, and family who now carry her in their hearts.
