The Sioux County Warriors rolled to a 78-12 victory over Banner County at home Friday afternoon in their season home opener.
It didn’t take long for Sioux County to take control of the game, as Jack Hunter ran in for first touchdown less than one minute into the game. A few minutes later, Cy Hughson added to the board after a 55-yard run. The Sioux County defense then forced a tackle for a loss, a sack and a fumble to let Hunter scramble in from the one-yard line, where the Warriors took over on downs. Sioux County wasn’t done yet, as Jadon Skavdahl ran 55-yards on a punt return for a touchdown. Hughson added another rushing TD for 38 yards to give the Warriors a 33-0 lead after one quarter.
Sioux County went to the air in the second quarter, scoring after two minutes of play on a 10-yard pass from Hughson to William Skavdahl. Banner County found the endzone with a kickoff return by Nate McGowan to make it 41-6. The Warriors answered with three more trips to the endzone: a three-yard scramble by Hughson, a 38-yard pass from Hughson to Logan Monroe and a 39-yard run by Hunter to send the teams to the locker room with a score of 59-6.
The Warriors younger players took the field after the break, with Baxter Reece putting points on the board with two rushing touchdowns, the first a 32-yard run mid-quarter with the second coming as time expired in the third quarter. Banner County also found the endzone once more, as Jacob Parsons ran in from 27 yards out. Reece capped the Warriors performance with a final touchdown on a pass from Thaine Monroe in the fourth quarter.
