The South Dakota Highway Patrol says the young man killed about 10:30 last Saturday night when he was hit by a car while crossing a highway east of Rapid City in Box Elder was a resident of the Pine Ridge Reservation.
24-year old Ivan Reddest Jr of Kyle died at Monument Health Rapid City Hospital, where he’d been taken after being hit.
The Highway Patrol says its preliminary investigation shows Reddest stepped out of the Hwy 1416 median and onto the left eastbound lane in front of the car driven by 27-year Jake Rinder of Rapid City.
Rinder, who was wearing a seatbelt and suffered minor injuries, told troopers he had no chance to avoid hitting Reddest.
