Memorial services for 69-year old John Skelton of Chadron, NE, are Thursday, Sept 21, 2023 at 10:00 at Chamberlain Chapel in Chadron.
Inurnment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Chadron.
In lieu of flowers, the family has established a memorial for the Chadron Rescue Unit. Donations and memorials may be sent in care of Chamberlain Chapel, P.O. Box 970, Chadron, NE 69337.

John Thomas Skelton was born on March 28, 1954 in Van Nuys, CA, and passed away on Sept 13, 2023 at Chadron Community Hospital in Chadron due to several health issues.
John moved with his parents, sister, and nephews to Chadron in 1985 and easily took to the Chadron way of life. He worked at the Chadron State College for several years in dietary and did odd jobs. His favorite job was collecting firewood to sell.
His last business venture was with his long time friend Darrell Roberts or, as John called him,
“Deany”. They could be seen around town always together.
John’s love of animals was heightened by country living. He enjoyed watching old TV shows and movies in the winter.
He was preceded in death by his parents and nephew Jason Smith.
He is survived by his sister Phyllis (Richard) Kinsley of Omaha, NE; his brother Vern Alluis of Roy, UT; nephews Jack (Kim) Smith of Omaha; Richard Allius and children of Roy; and niece Heather Alluis and children of Roy; great-nieces Katelyn (David) Smith and son Owen of Washington, DC; Ashley Smith and her daughter Olivia of Omaha; and great-nephew Mac Smith of Omaha; close friend Darrell Roberts and his daughters Sally Roberts and Deana Gausman of Chadron.
