The Chadron Public Library has been awarded a grant of $3,900 by the Nebraska Arts Council for the Creative Aging Through the Arts Program, a series of free workshops for adults 55-and-older that start tomorrow.

Arts Council Executive Director Mike Markey says the Chadron Public Library contributes a great deal to the advancement of the arts in Chadron, so the council is thrilled to support this project because the arts are important to the education and quality of life for all Nebraskans.

The Library is partnering on Creative Aging Through the Arts with Crestview Care Center and the Chadron Senior Center, which will provide the space for the weekly workshop sessions every Wednesday for the next 6 weeks.

Participants are asked to commit to attending all 6 because they build on each other, but no previous art experience is necessary.

Landscape artist Ben Darling will lead the workshop series, with each session have a maximum of 16 participants. Darling is a longtime arts instructor and specially trained in the Creative Aging Through the Arts Program.

An exhibit of Ben Darling’s work is currently at the Carnegie Arts Center in Alliance through October 28th..

Crestview Care Center will host workshops in the morning with afternoon sessions at the Senior Center. Both will teach participants how to paint the landscapes of the Great Plains including the land, sky, and water, and more.

Local residents 55 and older can sign up at the Chadron Public Library or the Chadron Senior Center. Please call library assistant director Susan Rolfsmeier at 308-432-0531 for more information.
