Gage Mintken accounted for seven of Hay Springs’ eight touchdowns in a 50-24 win over Cody-Kilgore, almost assuring the Hawks a home playoff game in the first round of next week’s D-6 playoffs.
Cody-Kilgore went up by scores of 8-0 and 16-6, before Hay Springs rattled off seven straight scores. The Cowboys did punch in one more touchdown with :27 seconds left in the ball game.
Mintken had five touchdowns on the ground, threw for another and had a pick six on defense. Dylan Young came up with the other Hay Springs on an interception return.
The Hawks have now rattled off five straight wins since starting 0-3 and will wait to see who their first round playoff opponent will be when brackets are released on either Friday night or Saturday morning.
