Nebraska Extension and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Center for Agricultural Profitability are hosting 4 price risk management workshops for cattle producers this week, including sessions Friday in Rushville and Bridgeport.
Attendees will learn strategies designed to reduce risk exposure and achieve a profitable outcome in uncertain times.
The workshops are free and a meal will be provided at each site, but today is the deadline to register for the Panhandle sites.
The Rushville workshop is Friday from 11-1:30 in the Extension Office in Rushville with the meal from The Bunkhouse while the Bridgeport session is that night from 5:00-7:30. Register online at cap.unl.edu/cattlerisk or by calling 402-472-3401
Current cattle industry issues to be discussed to help producers make informed decisions include two USDA programs – PRF or Pasture, Rangeland, and Forage (PRF) and managing price risk with USDA’s Livestock Risk Protection or LRP.
PRF is an annual sign-up due on Dec 1st while LRP can be purchased most business days.
Workshop participants will be guided through a case study to understand strategies and personal preferences for their use of the subsidized insurance products discussed during the workshop.
