Eagles Host CCU VB In Rare Wednesday Night Game With Postseason Implications

Loading

The Chadron State College volleyball team will host an important match with postseason implications on the line against Colorado Christian on Wednesday at 6 p.m., in the Chicoine Center.

The Eagles are currently 12-10 overall and 5-5 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play. The Cougars are 10-12 overall and 5-6 in conference play. CSC is currently ranked seventh while CCU is ranked eighth in the RMAC.

If CSC defeats Colorado Christian, they will remain a top eight team in the conference with matches against South Dakota Mines, Black Hills State and New Mexico Highlands remaining. Chadron State has defeated each of the three teams but each win occurred in an RMAC pod so they did not count towards conference records.

If Colorado Christian defeats Chadron State Wednesday, the Cougars will take over seventh and CSC will fall to a tie for eighth place with Westminster. Westminster defeated CSC two weeks ago, thus having the tie breaker over the Eagles and moving Chadron State to the nine seed.

The Cougars five conference wins occurred against Fort Lewis, Western Colorado, UCCS, Westminster and Colorado Mesa. The Eagles defeated the first three teams but fell to both Westminster and Colorado Mesa.

Six different Cougars have recorded over 100 kills this season, led by Libby Goodman. Goodman has a team high 197 kills, for an average of 3.65 per set. Renee Phillips leads CCU with an attack percentage of .328.

Izzy Jones has a team high 633 assists, an average of 10.05 per set while Krista Traymore averages an even 10 with 190 assists.

Defensively Abby Breeding has a team high 166 digs and Renee Phillips has a team high 65 blocks. Lilly Woods is second on the team with 60 total blocks and four other Cougars have at least 100 digs.

The match will be streamed at the rmacnetwork.com for fans unable to attend.
