Funeral services for 39-year old Michael Boyd Jr are Friday, Nov 3, 2023 at 2:00 at St Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Rapid City, SD, with Father Joe Hubbard officiating.

Cremation will follow the services with burial at a later date.

A one-night wake service with visitation starts Thurs, Nov 2, at 5:00 at St Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Rapid City with evening services at 7:00, followed by an all-night wake.

Michael Jerome Boyd Jr “Cante Waste Wicasa” (Good Heart Man) was born on October 3, 1984 in Danville, KY to Michael Boyd Sr and Stephanie Stroxtile. Michael Jr passed away on October 28, 2023 at his home in Hot Springs, SD.

Michael was born a country boy in Danville and loved the outdoors. He was known for helping others in times of need and was a good friend and relative who made an impact on a lot of people’s lives.

Michael loved his family dearly and was proud of his nieces & nephews. He also loved to joke around and had an amazing sense of humor. 

When Michael was in the Navy, he served aboard the guided missile cruiser USS Anzio – traveling around the world and seeing many places. He made it sound like an adventure and loved his shipmates. 

In the later part of his life, Michael returned home to settle with family in South Dakota. He will be dearly missed by many.

Michael is survived by his mother Stephanie Stroxtile of Hot Springs; father Michael Boyd Sr of Kentucky; brothers Andrew Boyd of Rapid City, Jaiven Bobzein, Kasiah Boyd, Zaydin Boyd all of Kentucky; aunts Michelle Klick of Rapid City, Terry Stroxtile of Denver, CO, Sue Bowles and Barbara Boyd both of Kentucky; uncles Dewayne Boyd and Tim Boyd, both of Kentucky; grandmother Geneva Boyd of Kentucky; and nieces & nephews Tritiyan Boyd, Tayven Boyd, Roman Boyd, Christina Boyd, and Gianna McCabe.

Michael was preceded in death by his sister Christina L Boyd; brother Stephen Boyd; grandparents Elenita (Prairie Chicken) Stroxtile, James Stroxtile, and Harold Boyd; great-grandmother Christine Weston-Prairie Chicken; and uncle Wayne Klick.

Pallbearers will be Sam Prairie Chicken, Micah Prairie Chicken, Austin Prairie Chicken, Dick Daily, Wyatt Spielman, Kelly Klick, Jaiven Bobzein, Daryl Reineke, Tim Boyd, and Andrew Boyd.

Honorary pallbearers will be the USS Anzio Shipmates, American Legion POST 71, Prairie Chicken Family, Weston Family, Boyd Family, Brickey Family, and all friends & relatives.
