Memorial services will not be held for 90-year old Stanley “Stan” DeHaven.
Stan had requested simply that there be no memorial service and that his ashes be spread at a later date in the beautiful Sandhills pasture near his childhood ranch home 23 miles south of Hay Springs, NE.
Stanley Felix DeHaven was born Feb 4, 1933 to longtime Sandhills cattle ranchers Harold (Harley) and Blanche H [Sandoz] DeHaven on the family ranch 23 miles south of Hay Springs. Stan passed away Wed, Oct 18, 2023, in Minatare, NE, after a long bout with old age and a short battle with cancer.
Stanley (“Stan”) grew up on the family ranch and was well acquainted with the rewards and trials of raising prize hereford beef cattle in the Sandhills of Nebraska.
He attended elementary school at Cotton Ridge, a one-room rural schoolhouse of that day which has since been moved into Hay Springs and has been converted into a museum showcasing the typical mode of education for elementary students in rural Nebraska in the mid 1900’s..
Upon graduation from Hay Springs High School, Stan married Rita Dreikosen, and to this union three children were born – Cherre, Bruce, and Shellene.
Stan’s second marriage was to Marlyn Hallsted Siegrist with Stan becoming father to step-daughters Terri and Sandra Siegrist. Daughter Annette was later born to the union.
Whether it be in the farm-ranch operation, custom farming jobs, or hauling farm equipment for a farm implement company, Stan’s legacy to his children was one of diligence and hard work.
Later in life and up until the time of his death, Stan was personally involved in his well-known business of buying, selling and re-installing pivot irrigation systems all over the United States as well as in Canada and Mexico in association with his grandsons Kolter, Kelsey, and Kyle,
Stan gained many friends during that time. He loved to share his memories and stories of his travels, and spoke fondly of good friends he had made along the way. He had a generous spirit, always willing to share with or help out friends and family in their times of need.
Stan leaves to mourn his passing his sister Doris Scott of Hay Springs; wife Marlyn of Minatare; daughter Cherre and husband (Terry) Balius of Hayes Center, NE; son Bruce and wife (Joan) of Frederick, CO; daughter Annette Parsons of Minatare; step-daugher Terri Bouska and husband (Don) of Rapid City, SD; step-daughter Sandra Moore of Bayard, NE; grandchildren Diane Sparks, Russ DeHaven, Meredith Koob, Kolter DeHaven, Kelsey Henne, Kyle Parsons, Nick McDaniel, Shelby Deluca, Lisa Morlock, Daniel Warfield and Melonie Warfield; many great-grandchildren; three great-great-granddaughters; and a nationwide host of friends.
Stan was preceded in death by his parents, sister Dorrine Liedman, daughter Shellene Whitman, and grandson Donovan Whitman.
