Memorial services for 67-year old Terri Janis are Sat, Nov 18, 2023 at 10:00 at the Pine Ridge High School Gymnasium in Pine Ridge, SD, with traditional Lakota services by Jerome LeBeaux

Burial is at Holy Cross Episcopal Cemetery in Pine Ridge

A one-night wake service starts Friday, Nov 17, at 2:00 at the Pine Ridge High School Gymnasium in Pine Ridge.

Terri Lynn Janis was born on April 26th, 1959 to Geraldine High Wolf-Janis and Ival “Spot” Janis in Pine Ridge South Dakota, the 7th of 9 children.  

From the start Terri had a spunk for life and always led with determination in getting things done her way.  

Terri led a big life and touched so many people.  She completed high school in just 3 years, graduating from Pine Ridge High School in 1975 but she didn’t stop there. Terri continued her education until she obtained her Masters of Administration degree from Oglala Lakota College. 

She held several jobs for the Oglala Sioux Tribe ranging from Health Administrator to Chief of Staff, her last job before she retired. 

Prior to coming home in 2020 Terri spent 14 years living in Spokane, WA, working at the Indian Health Service. She made a lot of friends there and often spoke of her time in Spokane with a smile. 

Terri had a passion for her family and always ensured her only Son, her grandchildren, and her “Grand-Sonshine” Quincy were well taken care of.

Terri is survived by her son Casey (Kellie) Means; grandsons Quincy Means, Samuel O’Rourke Jr, and Jacob Brewer; granddaughters Briseis Keith-Janis and Kaiden Brewer; God-Daughter Kelli Watters; sisters Veronica Garnier, Emerald Janis, Francine Janis, and Cora Janis; brothers Patrick (Angela) Janis and Ival (Simone) Janis Jr; and hunka brothers Jesse Mendoza and Good Friend Florence Clifford.

Pallbearers will be Terry Richards, AJ Watters, Todd Watters, Don “Gummer” Garnier, Charles Schrader Jr, Johnse Donovon, Pat Mills Jr, Dennis Cuny, Walter “Hank” Means, Roger Mills, Olen Zephier, Raymond Ghost Bear, George Dreamer Jr, and Jesse Heart.  

Escort will be Cheryl Colhoff.
