Our winter storm warning ended earlier than expected last night, but we’re still feeling the impact of the storm that dumped over a foot of snow in downtown Chadron.
Chadron and Crawford are both in snow emergencies scheduled to end at noon but that will be lifted before then if the snow emergencies routes are cleared.
No roads are currently closed in the Northern Panhandle or southwest South Dakota, but that’s not true farther south.
As of 5 am, Interstate 80 and Hwy 30 were both closed in both directions from the Wyoming state line to North Platte. Both were also closed westbound from Kearney to North Platte.
Despite the lack of road closures in our area, we still have winter driving conditions with most roads icy and snow-packed or snow-covered. There are also blowing snow issues in some places, so extreme caution is urged.
Travelers should check the forecast and 511.Nebraska.gov for updated road conditions before heading out. Any motorist who becomes stranded should stay with their vehicle and call for help. The NSP Highway Helpline is *55.
