ADRC Provides Independence for Nebraska Seniors

Loading

February is National Senior Independence Month, which provides an opportunity to celebrate older adults across the state of Nebraska and spread awareness of information and resources that are available to help support them and their independence throughout their journey.

“One of our goals is to help aging individuals in communities across Nebraska maintain their independence by connecting them to the appropriate resources that fit their specific needs”, said Tony Green, Director of the Division of Developmental Disabilities for The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). “The Aged and Disabled Resource Center is a coordinated effort to connect aging individuals across Nebraska with support and resources needed to live better lives.”

The Aged and Disabled Resource Center (ADRC) started as a pilot program in July 2016 and was made permanent in April 2018. This network of agencies, including the seven local Area Agencies on Aging, helps connect aging individuals with information, referrals, and assistance to access community services and long-term care options.

The ADRC assists Nebraskans aged 60 years or older, people with disabilities of all ages, family members, caregivers, and advocates. This is a great resource for individuals searching for options and services for aging individuals in Nebraska. The information and referrals to other programs, specific to the individual’s need, can help seniors maintain independence and get connected with the appropriate support and resources.
