Funeral services for 74-year old Dennis “Smiles” Oberbroekling of Geddes, SD, are Monday, Feb 26, 2024, at 10:30 at St Ann’s Catholic Church in Geddes.
Burial is in the St Ann’s Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation is Sunday, Feb 25, from 5-7:00 pm at St Ann’s Catholic Church with prayer service at 7:00.

Dennis John Oberbroekling was born on March 29, 1949, to Paul and LaVonne (Ahrens) Oberbroekling in Wagner, SD. He passed away Sunday, February 18, 2024 at his home surrounded by his family
Denny graduated from Geddes High School in 1967, then worked with his brother Raymond on a wheat harvest crew for two years. When he returned, he worked as a hired hand for Chuck Eitemiller, Elvern Varilek and Maynard Bridges.
On June 11, 1984, Dennis married Carol Meis. To this union were born Kevin, Renee, Brian, and Tyler.
In 1985, Denny moved his family to Draper, SD, where he worked on a ranch for Floyd Fuoss for 4 years before returning to Geddes to take over the family farm. In 2000, he started to work for the Geddes Farmers Elevator and remained there until retiring in 2020.
Denny loved to fish in the summertime. He enjoyed his kids and grandkids sporting events, throwing darts and hunting pheasants with his friends from Missouri.
Denny is survived by Carol, his wife of almost 40 years; children Kevin Oberbroekling, Brian (Jennifer) Oberbroekling, and Tyler Oberbroekling, all of Geddes, and Renee (Jeffrey) Thies of Hay Springs, NE,
He is also survived by grandchildren Caden Oberbroekling, Bo Thies, Randi Oberbroekling, Hunter Thies, and Lauren Oberbroekling; siblings Kathy Thompson of Armour, SD, Mary Holzinger of Laurel, MT, and Eugene (Jayne) Oberbroekling of Boise, ID; In-laws Susan (Rick) Dufek, Janis (Pat) Westendorf, and Mark (Laurie) Meis; Godchildren Brian Huggins, Jennifer (Oberbroekling) Soucy and Mackenzie Oberbroekling.
Denny was preceded in death by his parents Paul and LaVonne (Ahrens) Oberbroekling; his brother Raymond Oberbroekling; sister Susan (Sam) Anderson; in-laws Harold (Lefty) and Lavern Meis; and brothers-in-laws Terry Thompson, Neal Anderson, and Jim Meis.
