Led by senior Kyndall Carnahan’s victory in the 1600 meters, the Chadron High School girls placed third among the 14 schools at the Mitchell Invitational Track and Field Meet on Thursday.

Carnahan passed her chief rival about 100 yards from the finish line and won the 1600 in 5:38.67, her career-best time.  A few minutes later, her younger brother, freshman Kole Carnahan, placed third in the boys’ 1600.

In other track events, the Chadron also earned a third from Beau Behrends and a fifth from Grace Pyle in the 800. a fourth in the 3200 from Lillie Uhing, a fourth from Reece Ritterbush in the 300 hurdles, a fifth and a sixth in the 100 hurdles from Ritterbush and Maci Rutledge, and took third in the 4×400 relay with a team made up of Ritterbush, Pyle, Demi Ferguson and Cali Hendrickson.

In the field events, Oliva Lyon was third in the discus and fourth in the shot put, Raylie Pourier was fourth in the discus and Hannah Sprock was sixth in the shot. In addition, Addison Morrison was sixth in the long jump.

In the boys’ competition, another freshman besides Kole Carnahan—Drew Dunbar–was fourth in the long jump with a leap of 18-11. Quinn Bailey earned all of Cardinals’ remaining points by placing in the 100 dash, the long jump and the triple jump.

Sidney won both of the team titles at Mitchell while Gering was the runner-up in both.   The Sidney girls had four double winners, including Karsyn Leeling, who set meet records on both the triple jump and high jump.  Leeling cleared 6 foot-1 in the high jump to improve on the state record she set two weeks ago when she became the first Nebraska girl to ever go 6-feet in that event.
