Do you have areas in your landscape that it is hard to keep mulch on? One solution might be to start a ground cover in that area, ground covers are low-growing plants that spread quickly to form a dense mat they can act as mulch and suppress weeds, or as erosion control on a steep bank, they can also help to insulate the soil and retain moisture during hot dry periods of heat. They also can add color and interest to any area. I’m Anita Gall, University of Nebraska Extension Master Gardener.
