Ag Appreciation Banquet Includes Honors For 2 Longtime Leaders/Volunteers

Chadron Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Gabby Michna is pleased with last Saturday’s 48th annual Ag Appreciation Banquet at the Dawes County Fairgrounds.

Michna describes the turnout of several hundred ag producers “decent,” but says the level of support given by merchants, Ag Committee members, and dozens of volunteers and donors was almost beyond words.

In addition to the meal, door prizes, and entertainment by the Muzika Band, the Banquet this year had a Quilt of Valor presentation to retired veterinarian and former Chadron Mayor Dr John Gamby, who was a lieutenant colonel in the Air Force and Reserve.

In recent years, the Ag Appreciation Banquet has also recognized a Guest of Honor.

This year, the Guest of Honor was retired Extension Educator Don Huls, one of the original ag dinner Committee members and the MC for all 48 of the banquets.

Michna says Huls was a fitting choice as the Guest of Honor this year because he’s finally stepping back from the committee and turning his duties over to literally the next generation – his son Ty.

Huls said he started getting the feeling something was up when his daughters and grandkids started showing up, but wasn’t expecting what it turned out to be.
