Alliance Firm Reaches “Elite 8” In The “Coolest Things Made In Nebraska” Competition

Loading

An Alliance company has made it to the final 8 in the annual Coolest Things Made in Nebraska Competition

The competition, hosted by the Nebraska Manufacturing Alliance, is intended to showcase different ideas from across the state.

Antioch Machines of Alliance is in the running with its Greenhouse in the Snow, a geothermal greenhouse that is built into the ground and draws its heat from the Earth.

Antioch owner Allen Bright says the Greenhouse in the Snow has been used to grow warm-weather crops such as citrus with virtually no outside heat.

More than 60 nominations were submitted for this year’s Coolest Thing. A committee trimmed that to 16 that were put in a bracket-style tourney with pairs facing off until only two are standing.

In this round, Greenhouse in the Snow faces a firetruck made by Danko Emergency Equipment in Snyder. Online voting is now open at nemanufacturingalliance.com and closes at midnight Sunday night.

This year’s champion will be announced at the Nebraska Manufacturing Summit in La Vista on October 10th. October is Manufacturing Month.
