Alpha School Goes On The Auction Block Monday Night

The Chadron School District is selling the former Alpha School and its 2.6-acre site at auction Monday night at 6:00 with a minimum bid of $50,000.

The school district is also auctioning off miscellaneous items such as tables, chairs, desks, shelves, pipe, and chain-link fencing. There is no minimum bid for those items.

The auction is at the Alpha School, about 4-miles east of Chadron along Hwy 20 near the Museum of the Fur Trade. Terms are 10% down with the balance paid on or before September 1st..

Alpha School has been used primarily for storage since the Chadron school board closed all of its rural schools in 2011, but the building no longer fits into the district’s long-term plans.

The concrete block school with brick exterior was built in 1950.  The main floor has an office, three classrooms, and two 1/2 baths. The basement has a large multi-purpose room, kitchen, storage room, and mechanical room, along with a seperate entrance.

The building has propane forced-air heating, a private well, and septic. There is a 72 x 108-foot  asphalt pad on the west side of the school, and the property has a perimeter fence.
