Burial is at the Little Whiteman Family Plot in No Flesh ~ Kyle, SD

Alton Daniel Mesteth “Zuya Wichasa” was born on Jan 21, 1970 in Pine Ridge, SD to Linda Mesteth. Alton went to sleep in death on Jan 27, 2024 at his home near Kyle. 

Alton grew up in Kyle and attended Little Wound School and graduated with the class of 1988. He enlisted in the Army in Dec 1988 and was stationed at Schofield Barracks in Hawaii as a PFC with C Company. 4th Battalion, 87th Infantry.  

Alton served during the Gulf War and Operation Desert Storm.  He received orders to Sinai, Egypt with the multinational peacekeeping force, and had numerous tours of duty where he received many medals and honors.  

After the military, he worked at Little Wound School for 5 years before joining the IHS, where he was employed for 27 years until his death. 

Alton is survived by his mother Linda Mesteth; significant other Brenda Wounded Arrow; son Brandon Bre Mesteth; daughters Danielle, Melissa, Alexis, and Summer Mesteth; grandchildren Tayleigh, Tre’von, Briant, and Aaliyah; brother John (Daydishka) Mesteth; sisters Destiny (Travis) Loafer, Jessica (Steve) Wilson; hunka mother Ethel Kills Straight; grandmothers Lavina Red Owl, Evelyn Gregg, Lynette Murray, Ruth Gray Horse, and Denise Spoonhunter; grandfathers Ernest Little Whiteman, Gilbert (Dempsie) Mesteth, and Philip Mesteth; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, & nephews.

Alton was preceded in death by his grandmother Alberta Mesteth; grandfathers Daniel J Mesteth and Bernard Little Whiteman, grandparents Everette, Emmett, Willard, Stanley, and Aloysius Little Whiteman, Gabriel Mesteth Jr, Orin Mesteth, Wilmer Mesteth, Birgil Kills Straight, Laban Red Owl, Mary Ann Witt, and Theresa Mesteth; uncle Jonathan Little Whiteman; and nephew Tyrell Wilson

Pallbearers will be Brian Good Buffalo, Roland Apple, Adam Clifford, Darrol Little Whiteman, Brandon Mesteth, Wyatt Mesteth, Jordan Mesteth, Steven Wilson Jr, Lawry Black Bear, and Delane Two Eagle.

Honorary pallbearers will be Pine Ridge IHS Staff, and All Family & Friends.
