Ambrose Andrew “Babe” New Holy Jr “Peji Wakpa Hoksila” was born on June 23, 1959 in Pine Ridge to Ambrose New Holy Sr and Keva (Ghost) New Holy.  Ambrose Jr made his journey to the Spirit World on September 17, 2021 at his home near Oglala, SD.

He was given the nickname “Babe” by his mother when he was a baby and now everyone knows him by that. He accepted the role as the Chief of “Little Grass Creek Tiospaye” and started a drum group known as “Medicine Hoop” with his good kola’s.

Babe was a driver for the OST Behavior Management Service and Prairie Wind Casino until his health started to fail.

He also worked at the federal prison as a liaison worker for Native Sister & Brotherhood in Ontario, Canada.

Babe loved to sing at pow-wows and other places where he could share all the songs that his family before him passed down.  He was a traditional person and lived that way of life, no matter how hard it was.

Babe loved family gatherings and encouraged us to take care of each other.  He was a father figure to many nephews, nieces, and grandchildren as he encouraged them to make good choices and live sober lives.
