Chadron police say an elderly woman was taken to the hospital after she apparently suffered a medical event while driving and hit a tree in the 700-block of Main Street about 3:00 Friday afternoon.
The woman’s name and condition have not been released.
Lt Gabriel Walz says another driver told officers the woman was northbound going about 25 mph when her vehicle suddenly drifted to the left, crossed the southbound lane, went over the curb and hit the tree.
     Lt Walz says most of the impact was on the drivers side of the front end, adding that the vehicle was apparently traveling slow enough that the airbags did not deploy.Â
The Chadron Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad also responded, as did the Nebraska State Patrol and the Dawes County Sheriff’s Office.
