Area Schools Compete at State Track

The Class D State Track and Field meet took place at Omaha’s Burke Stadium over the course of Friday and Saturday. A solid showing over the event from the area schools saw two medals earned.

The highlight of the meet came from Hay Springs where both of the medals earned for the northern panhandle are returning to as Parker Wellnitz got 3rd in the boys 3200 meter race on Friday right after a 45 minutes lightning delay with freshman Arian Mata getting a fourth medal on Saturday in the 1600. 

Staying with Hay Springs where on Friday Reese Varvel got a 15th place finish in 400. On Saturday Aliana Raymer finished 23rd in triple jump along with Wellnitz wrapping up his senior year with a 14th place finish in the 800.

Crawford had a large group of student athletes in Omaha with three events taking place on Friday. Keslyn Vogel got 20th in long jump while Kember Mittan got 24th in the 3200. The girls 4×800 relay team of Vogel, Peyton Osmotherly, Kylee Osmotherly, and Mittan came home in 10th.

Saturday was highlighted by a ninth place finish for Vogel in the 300 meter hurdles. Leah Holmgren placed 19th in triple jump, Taylor Homan got 22nd in the 800 while Peyton Osmotherly was unable to clear the opening height of 4-07. The 4×400 relay team of Vogel, Peyton Osmotherly, Mittan and Holmgren placed 15th.

Sioux County had just one student athlete in Omaha with Victoria Turbiville getting 23rd in discus on Friday and 12th in shot put on Saturday.
