A Pine Ridge Reservation man faces multiple felonies for alleged firing a gun at the wall of a Chadron business last week.

44-year-old Brandon Afraid of Bear from Oglala was arrested Monday in connection with an incident that put 2 holes in an outside wall at City S’Liquors. He’s being held in the Dawes County Jail on 10% of $150,000 bail.

Formal charges have not yet been filed, but the Chadron Police Department has recommended felony counts of Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm, Discharge of a Firearm in a City, and Attempt of a Felony as well as misdemeanor Criminal Mischief.

Chadron Police Lt Gabriel Walz says a caller contacted police last Wednesday about 5:30 pm about the City S’Liquors’ building possibly being hit by bullets.

The investigating officers found 2 bullet holes in the west wall and were told by the reporting party that they’d heard “popping noises” about 4:30 the previous afternoon but didn’t know what it was..

Careful review of security video revealed a white 4-door sedan with South Dakota license plates being driven in a suspicious manner in the parking lot before leaving to the west just prior to the “popping” sound being heard.

The police issued a release on the incident last Thursday and asked the public for help in finding the suspect vehicle.

Lt Walz says by Monday afternoon, Afraid of Bear had been identified as a suspect. He was located and contacted by officers about 4:30 pm, interviewed, and arrested.
