A Scottsbluff-area teenager made his first court appearance Monday on murder charges in a Saturday shooting death.
19-year-old Anibal Domingo Jr of Terrytown was taken into custody Sunday afternoon.
Domingo faces counts of 2nd-degree murder and felony use of a firearm in the death of 22-year-old Wilson Coleman III, also of Terrytown. 2nd-degree murder is by definition intentional but not premeditated.
Scotts Bluff County Judge Kris Mickey has scheduled a preliminary hearing for a week from Friday on December 1st and set bail for Domingo at 10% of $2.5-million dollars.
The arrest affidavit states that Domingo had a confrontation earlier in the day at a convenience store with a group of Coleman’s friends, who left and picked him up.
They stopped at Coleman’s home, where he got a pistol. They then drove around until they found Domingo in his pickup in the parking lot of an apartment complex. Coleman went to the pickup and confronted Domingo.
The affidavit says Domingo admitted to the earlier incident while Coleman pulled out the gun, pointed it at Domingo, and fired a shot in the air – leading Domingo to warn that he also had a gun
Witnesses told investigators that Domingo reached down to the floorboard of his pickup while Coleman and his friends ran to their vehicle. Coleman screamed he was hit and his friends said they saw a wound in his chest.
They said they drove him to Regional West Medical Center, and tossed away Coleman’s pistol near the Riverside zoo. Coleman died later at the hospital.
During the ensuing police investigation, residents of the apartment complex where the final confrontation took place confirmed hearing 2 shots.
When police interviewed Domingo, he admitted drinking the night before but denied having a gun or shooting anybody. He was then taken into custody.
