The Chadron State College rodeo team had a few good things happen at the rodeo hosted by Sheridan College last weekend, but didn’t prosper as much as was hoped.

Two barrel racers led the way. Shailey McAbee of Hyannis finished fifth with runs of 17.99 and 18.09 and Sierra Lee of Rhame, N.D., by way of Harding County High at Buffalo, S.D., was sixth in 17.95 and 18.16.

Tanner Whetham of Morrill and his team roping partner, Cameron Jensen of Casper College, were fifth in the first go-round of that event in 6.7 seconds, but had a no time in the finals. Since other teams had a similar situation, Whetham and Jensen were fifth in the overall standings.

Colten Storer of Arthur was the runner-up in the opening go-round of tie down roping in 9.9 seconds, but he didn’t catch the calf in the finals. Kaden Clark of Yoder, Wyo., made it to the finals of goat tying with runs of 7.6 and 7.9 seconds. However, that was not fast enough to place among the top six and earn points.

The goat tying was won by another cowgirl with a Yoder address, Haiden Thompson, formerly of Whitney. Her times were 6.8 and 6.5 seconds.

Lamar College in southern Colorado will host the Central Rocky Mountain Region rodeo this weekend.
