Betty Jo Reid was born September 15, 1929, in Loup City, NE, and passed away peacefully on Friday, May 6th, 2022.
Betty was the eldest of six children born to the late Arnold Ritchey and Mildred Frances (Sale) Steele. She graduated from Loup City High School in 1947 and married the love of her life, Harold Thomas Reid, on September 6th, 1948, in Hay Springs, NE.
For the first 23 years of their marriage, Harold and Betty made their homes in Hay Springs and Chadron, NE, then in 1971 moved to San Jose, CA, where they remained until moving in 1993 to Lubbock, TX. After Harold’s passing in 2008, Betty moved to Kerrville, TX, to be near her siblings and remained there until moving to Naples in 2018.
Betty and Harold were blessed with six children; their children were their pride and joy. In addition to being a homemaker and mother of six, Betty worked at various offices in secretarial positions throughout her married life. She also volunteered at the Peterson Hospice Thrift Store in Kerrville.
A few of Betty’s favorite pastimes were playing cards and working on crossword puzzles. She loved to sew, knit, and needlepoint. Whether it was making scarves, slippers, baby booties or items for the home, she loved sharing her homemade gifts with her family.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Harold; their son Thomas; her brother Larry Steele and two sisters Marilyn Alcorn, and Shirley Blair.
Those left to cherish her memory include her three sons: Philip (Christine) of Naples, Keith of Chadron, and Paul (Pamela) of Naples. She also leaves behind two daughters, Sheila (David) and Susan (Joseph) both of Campbell, CA, and her daughter-in-law, Jacque Reid, of Lincoln, NE. Her children blessed her with thirteen grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.
