Beverly June Monday was born on July 31, 1947 in Great Falls, MT to Charles Parkhurst and Alice Lee.  Beverly made her journey to the Spirit World on April 11, 2023 at her home in Rapid City, SD.

Beverly was raised in Pine Ridge as a child and attended Red Cloud Indian School. She moved to Salinas, CA in 1969 to attend college under the Indian Relocation Act of 1956.

That’s where she met her husband, Anthony Dean Monday, and they were married in 1970. They were living in San Jose, CA, when their son Kyle was born in 1972 and they had relocated to Sacramento, CA, when their daughter Donica was born in 1978.

Beverly had a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics and taught high school math at Mercy High School in California until shortly after the death of her husband. She moved to Rapid City, SD in 2004.

Bev loved reading crime novels, going to church and her dogs. During her last years she discovered Mahjong at her local senior center and even entered several tournaments.

Because she grew up in poverty, Beverly believed strongly in giving to those who were less fortunate and would often open her home to those who needed a place to stay.

She also believed strongly in the concept of “Mitákuye Oyás’iÅ‹” (“we are all related”) and was always willing to help anybody who needed it. She will be remembered for her huge and generous heart.

Beverly is survived by her son Kyle Monday of California; daughter Donica Monday of Washington; nephew Stanford Parkhurst of SD; nieces Echo, Nikole, and Diamond Parkhurst.all of Arizona, and Fiana Anderson of Nevada; daughter-in-law Ani Tascian; grandson Ian Monday of California; and son-in-law John Flemming of Washington.

Beverly was preceded in death by her sister,Constance Anderson; brother John Parkhurst; and widowed in 1996 when her husband, Anthony Dean Monday, passed away.
