Bike Repair Station Added at South Side of Laing Lake in Alliance

Activate Alliance, a community group working to make Alliance a safer place to walk, bike, and roll, is excited to offer a bike repair station for community use and sponsored by Healthy Blue.

The station is conveniently located at 18th and Box Butte on the south side of Laing Lake and is available for anyone needing spur-of-the-moment maintenance and repair. The station offers bike mounting, nine common bicycle tools tethered to the station, an air pump, an ADA-compliant design, and a QR code for maintenance instructions for viewing from a smartphone.

“We’re grateful to Healthy Blue for their sponsorship and to Activate Alliance for their continued enhancements around the community to support safe access for walking, biking, and rolling,” said Janelle Visser, Injury Prevention Coordinator with Panhandle Public Health District.

The committee also coordinates the Alliance Community Bike Share Program with the bright green bikes available at locations around town. These bikes will be available again next Spring.

The City of Alliance has been busy adding flashing pedestrian signs and lights at the intersections along the Snake Creek Trail and Carnegie Arts Center updated the crosswalk murals too. Get out for a roll or stroll along the path! It’s quite inviting with the trees in their prime of Fall colors.

Activate Alliance includes the school, community residents, hospital, city, law enforcement, public transit, senior services, community center, and public health. They’re excited for several successes including crosswalk beautification, signage upgrades, walk audits, a bike share program, and various communications. Their goal is to make Alliance a safer place to walk, bike, and roll and are funded in part through the Box Butte Health Foundation.

Anyone is encouraged to join their regular meetings with the next one being January 18, 2024, and another community forum planned for January 23, 2024, from 5:30 – 7:30 pm at Box Butte General Hospital.
