Bison Stumble In State Tourney Opener

The Hot Springs boys lost their opener of the South Dakota class A boys state basketball tournament on Thursday morning to top seeded Dakota Valley 80-47.

Dakota Valley, who is now riding a 51 game winning streak, outscored the Bison 18-2 in the paint and by a combined 47-14 in the 2nd and 3rd quarters.

Dakota Valley dropped 57% of their shots to just 33% for the Bison, who are still looking for their first state tournament win since 1945.

Hot Springs put two players in double figures, led by Camron Maciejewski with 11 and 10 from Preston Iverson.

South Dakota Gatorade Player of the Year and future USD Coyote Isaac Bruns had 24 to lead the Panthers.

Hot Springs will play the loser of Sioux Valley and Hamlin in the consolation semifinals on Friday at 11:00 am.
