A Hay Springs 8th-grade student died in an accident in Perkins County South Dakota on Sunday.
Harding County Sheriff’s Deputies initially responded due the location of the accident and its proximity to the Harding-Perkins County line. The accident scene is within Perkins County’s jurisdiction.
No additional details are available at this time but a message to parents Sunday evening stated that the school was “saddened to report that an 8th grade student had died in an accident.” The message was not specific regarding the type of accident.
The district is providing counselors and staff to support students Sunday evening at the school. Students should enter through the Auditorium doors.
