The Chadron State College football team got some good news this week. The knee injury suffered by senior safety Brendan Brehmer of Alliance in the Eagles’ season-opener apparently wasn’t as severe as originally thought and he may be able to return to action in a few weeks.
Brehmer was injured in early in the second quarter of the game on Sept. 1 against Angelo State in Texas while trying to make a tackle during an Angelo punt return. It was believed he had sustained a torn ACL in his right knee, which would have ended his season and career.Â
But further diagnosis on Wednesday determined that the injury is a meniscus tear, which usually heals itself without surgery in a few weeks.
CSC Defensive Coordinator Clint Sasse said it will give the Eagles a big boost if Brehmer can return for the second half of the season because he’s one of the team’s toughest, smartest and most physical players. Â
