10:00 AM UPDATE Bronco Fire Burning NW Of Crawford

The Bronco Fire, located 11 miles northwest of Crawford, NE in Sioux County, was reported on Sept 18, at 12:06 p.m. Federal, State and Local resources responded and remain on scene. Air resources are being used on the fire. The fire is about 415 acres.

The fire started on private property and has burned onto the Oglala National Grassland. The fire is burning in rough terrain. Dozer lines are partially in place; however, most areas are only accessible by foot.

The fire is managed under a unified command between Crawford Volunteer Fire Department and the US Forest Service.

The Nebraska National Forest & Grasslands shared information in a social media post on a wildfire burning northwest of Crawford dubbed the Bronco Fire.

The public is asked to avoid travel on roads in the vicinity of the fire for their own safety and
the safety of firefighters. No unnecessary travel on Milo Road, Sand Creek Road and Cottonwood Road.

The fire is belived to be caused by lightning.

“There is currently a fire located approximately 11 miles Northwest of Crawford just north of intersection Cotton Wood and Milo Road. Fire is currently located on private land, and approximately 100 acres. Resources that are currently on site, include Federal, State, Dawes County, Crawford and Harrison Volunteer Fire Departments. Firefighting aircraft is also on site. Currently, the fire is burning dead and down timber and grass in steep terrain. Firefighters are currently using natural barriers.

Please avoid this area with the current fire and weather conditions.”
