The Wyoming Highway Patrol says one person was killed and 13 injured Monday afternoon when a bus on Interstate 25 north of Douglas crashed into several vehicles stopped because of an earlier accident.
The driver of the bus, 65-year old Tim Hunter, was taken to Converse County Memorial Hospital in Douglas, but later died of his injuries.
13 bus passengers were also taken to the hospital, but the extent of their injuries and their conditions have not been released.
The Highway Patrol says the pavement was icy and snow-covered when the southbound bus came upon the earlier accident that was still blocking the freeway. The bus hit both vehicles from the first crash as well as a vehicle that had stopped for it.
The Patrol says the investigation is continuing with driving too fast for road conditions being looked at as a possible contributing factor.
Hunter is the 121st traffic fatality so far this year on Wyoming roads. That’s an increase of 14 or 12% from the same time last year.
