Two and a half months after committing to Doane University, Chadron High track and field school record holder Chayton Bynes has officially signed his letter of intent, but with the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs. The announcement was made on Tuesday.

Chadron head track coach Blakelee Hoffman made mention at last month’s track champions reception that Bynes had more suitors lining up and that a change in colleges may be happening.

Bynes additional offers followed his record setting day at the B-6 district meet in which he broke both the Chadron High long jump and triple jump records. He cleared 47’ 5.75” in the triple jump and 23’ 1.75” in the long jump. He would go on to place 4th in both events at the Class B state championships.

Bynes joins a UCCS program that just took six jumpers to the NCAA division 2 national meet and came away with three All-Americans.
