Capitol Peregrine Chicks Receive Names

Loading

The two female and one male peregrine falcons raised at the Nebraska Capitol this summer now have lofty names to match their lofty nest box home near the top of the building.

Cirrus, Stratus and Cumulus were the names submitted by Shawn Meyer of Beatrice. Those names received the most public online votes in the Name the Chick Contest.

Six finalists were chosen from approximately 400 name combinations submitted. Out of 1,015 total votes cast, Meyer’s submission received 256.

Meyer wins a year’s subscription to Nebraskaland Magazine.

Parents of the chicks are Jet (father) and Atlas (mother).

Continue to watch the chicks grow over the next few weeks. See a streaming video of the falcon nest box at OutdoorNebraska.gov by searching “peregrine falcons.”
