
The Chadron Cardinals wrapped up the Western Conference Tournament Saturday with wins in girls and boys. The girls took down Liberty Tree 73-14 to finish in 7th while the boys took down Mitchell 54-41 to finish 5th.
The girls started off the day at Scottsbluff High School, taking on newcomer Liberty Tree Academy. The Cardinals got a hot start by racing out to a 43-8 lead in the first half. The Cardinals stretched the lead out in the third quarter 55-10 before breezing through the final quarter to finish off a 73-14 win. The Cardinals girls finished in 7th place in the tournament that Sidney won.
The boys game was a rematch against Mitchell. The game was tight with two lead changes in the first quarter but Chadron led 15-12. The Cardinals did not trail the rest of the way as they stretched the lead out to 26-17 at half. The Cardinals finished the game on a 29-24 run as they took 5th place by a 54-41 score.
Brady Daniels led the Cardinals with 16 points. Derek Bissonette and Thomas Smith each had 14, Talon Jelinek had five while Tobin Landen had four and Tyson Pourier had one in the game. The Cardinals girls will take an 11-8 record into a six day break while the boys have a 10-8 record. Next up for the Cardinals is a home game vs Hill City, South Dakota on Friday night.
