The Chadron Cardinals girls basketball team begins their season on Friday night with a trip to Sidney to take on the Red Raiders. The Cardinals return no starters from last year’s 14-15 team and will be one of the youngest teams in the panhandle with no seniors on the roster. The Cardinals have five players looking to step up as juniors in Reese Ritterbush, Jayce Turman, Brooklyn Hoffman, Beau Behrends, Addison Morrison, and Cali Hendrickson. Sophomores Brylee Huffman and Jove Griese got extended minutes off the bench in Chadronโs preseason jamboree game and will look to be contributing role players. There are two newcomers to the team in freshmen Gracie Calkins and Jezy Alcorn, both projected starters for the Kelsey Scott coached team.ย
Chadron is a part of the C-1 region five group which includes Bridgeport, Chase County, Hershey, Mitchell, and Ogallala. Chadron is scheduled to play only Mitchell in the regular season but could see Bridgeport or Ogallala in the Chadron Holiday Tournament on the 30th and 31st of December.
The Cardinals open and close the regular season with Sidney who moved up to class B this season. Outside of the Western Conference Tournament the Cardinals will also see Gordon-Rushville, Gering, and Alliance twice in home and home matchups.
