The Chadron High girls wrestling team opened up their season Thursday by hosting the Chadron High Girls Wrestling Invite. 19 teams packed the gym at Chadron High School with Bridgeport coming out on top of the team race. Gering finished second with the Chadron Cardinals coming in third.
Individually three Cardinal wrestlers took home titles. Josie Werner won the 105 pound class by going 3-0 and finishing off the title with a tech fall over Mitchell. At 125 Bristol Prado took first by going 3-0 and winning the title by a tech fall over Bridgeport.
At 155 it was a Chadron 1-2 finish with Addison Diers taking the title over Adday Tewahade. Diers went 3-0, and pinned Tewahade in the final.
Other wrestlers competing for the Cardinals were Lailee Smith at 100 pounds, she went 2-2 to finish fourth. Taylee Williamson went 2-0 at 110 before sitting out the rest of the tournament due to injury. Abigail Bower went 0-2 at 115, Gianna LaPorte at 135 went 0-2, Graycen OโDonnell went 2-2 at 140. To wrap up the Chadron High girls competing was Vivian Golembiewski who went 3-1 and finished third at 190.
Both girls and boys wrestling teams will be in OโNeil on Saturday for the OโNeil Invite. Quinn Bailey will miss that tournament as he is competing in the invite only Walsh Ironman tournament Friday and Saturday in Ohio.
