Cardinals Roll G-R In Season Opening Win

Loading

Broc Berry threw for 3 touchdowns and ran for another as Chadron overcame early turnovers to run away from Gordon-Rushville 41-13 in the season opener for both teams on Thursday night.

Quinn Bailey and Malachi Swallow each notched a touchdown run for the Cardinals.

After turning the Mustangs over on downs, Chadron struck on its opening drive when Berry threw an 88-yard bomb to Seth Gaswick for the first score of the night. Gordon-Rushville would knot it at 6 by the end of the 1st quarter on a QB keeper.

Berry would punch it in himself midway through the 2nd from just a couple of yards away to give the Red Birds back the lead. Just before half Berry would hook up with Xander Provance from just 10 yards out to give Chadron a 21-6 lead at the break.

Berry found Gaswick again on a slip screen and Gaswick sprinted 82 yards to extend the Chadron lead out to 27-6.

Another quarterback run got Gordon-Rushville back on the board in the 3rd, but the Cards sealed the deal in a shutout 4th off of runs from Bailey and Swallow.

Chadron will head home next Friday to host Gering at 7:00 pm.
