Cardinals Slip In First Round of Western Conference

The Chadron Cardinals girls and boys teams began their Western Conference Tournament journeys yesterday. The Cardinals boys team came in as the four seed and fell 69-51 to the fifth seeded Gering Bulldogs. While the girls came in as the fifth seed and fell to the four seed North Platte 62-46.

In the boys game the Gering Bulldogs found themselves up 21-10 at the end of the first quarter before extending the lead to 34-21 at half. Chadron was able to cut the deficit down to four in the third quarter but Gering pulled away to lead 51-32 after three. Gering could not miss in the fourth as they moved to the semifinals with a 69-51. 

Brady Daniels led the Cardinals with 22 points, Thomas Smith had 15, Tobin Landen had six, Trey Owsley finished with four. Tyson Pourier had two while Havien Catches and Talon Jelinek each had one. 

The Cardinals boys will now play Liberty Tree Academy who fell to Scottsbluff 101-12 in the consolation bracket semifinals with a tip time of four pm Friday at Scottsbluff High School.

The Cardinals girls batted against Class A North Platte and were down four at the end of the first quarter. North Platte stepped up their defense in the second quarter to take a 34-20 lead at half. The Cardinals fought extremely hard in the second half but fell to the Bulldogs 62-46. 

The Cardinals will play against Alliance, who lost to Sidney 57-16 on Friday at Gering High School. We will have the girls game on 610am KCSR with pregame set to begin at 3:45 with tipoff at 4.
