The Chadron Cardinals girls and boys teams were in the Twin Cities for the consolation semifinals of the Western Conference Tournament on Friday. The boys defeated Liberty Tree Academy 97-39 while the girls fell to Alliance 42-29. The boys will advance to the fifth place game and will take on Mitchell Saturday while the girls fall to the seventh place game and will play Liberty Tree.
The girls game saw the Cardinals take control of the game early, racing out to a 13-9 lead in the first quarter before leading 27-15 at half. Alliance got things going in the second half, out-scoring Chadron 37-2 in the final two quarters to win 42-29.
Jezy Alcorn led the Cardinals with eight points, Jove Griese had six, Sophie Watson had five, Jae Gooder had four, Reese Ritterbush had three, and Brooklyn Hoffman had one.
The Cardinals girls will take on Liberty Tree in the seventh place game with a tip time of 10am at Scottsbluff High School while the boys will take on Mitchell in the fifth place game at Gering High School.
