Loading

History in the making, the thought of the week leading up to Chadron hosting Chase County in high school football. Well there was history made and a win for the Chadron Cardinals as they defeated the Chase County Longhorns 32-6.

People always remember the moment they realize they are watching a legendary player and Quinn Bailey is that, as at the end of the first quarter he had 140 yards, which was enough to become the 60th player in Nebraska High School football history to achieve 5,000 rushing yards. The Cardinals led 16-0 with short touchdown runs, both from Bailey.

The Cardinals continued running the ball with a still breeze coming out of the south which inhibited any passing from working. The Cardinals tacked on two more Bailey touchdown runs as they led 32-0 at half. The Cardinals defense was showing off as Chase County had -28 yards at half.

The Longhorns woke up in the second half getting a long touchdown pass with the wind at their backs but the Cardinals defense continued strong, holding on to win 32-6.

Officially Bailey ended up with 43 carries and 286 yards and four touchdowns. Layne Davidson had 8 carries for 45 yards. The Cardinals ended with 367 rushing yards on 64 carries.

The 6-0 Cardinals will head south down highway 385 on Friday Night to take on rival Alliance. The Bulldogs come in at 1-5 after losing to Lexington with their only win coming against Gordon-Rushville. Kickoff is set for 7pm.
