Casper Abortion Clinic Arson Defendant Free Without Bond Awaiting Trial

Loading

The young woman charged with setting fire last May to a Wyoming abortion clinic under construction has been released pending trial.

22-year old Lorna Green, who waived her right to a preliminary hearing, won’t need to post bond but would owe $10,000 if she violates the conditions of her release.

Those conditions include living with her parents in Casper while attending college and working part time as a food delivery driver. There’s also a condition for her parents: they must remove firearms from their home.

U-S Magistrate Judge Stephanie Hambrick is based in Yellowstone National Park and presided over Green’s detention hearing by video link to a federal courtroom in Cheyenne.

Defense attorney Ryan Semerad told The Associated Press after the hearing that he and Green’s family are pleased she’s being released and look forward to addressing the charge against her in future proceedings.

The May 25th fire kept the abortion clinic from opening as planned last summer, but the investigation had gone cold until an anonymous $10,000 donation earlier this month boosted the reward to $15,000.

About a dozen tipsters came forward and 4 offered Green as a suspect. She was arrested last Tuesday and court documents show she confessed to investigators, saying the clinic was giving her anxiety and nightmares so she decided to burn it

Nothing in her social media history pointed toward any such action or any anti-abortion views.

Instead, in the weeks and months before and after the fire, Green posted about competing in a bike race, losing her pet hedgehog and visiting a butterfly garden with her grandmother

  1. This is so sad. All of the Baby killers raised money to find the perp. The person who donated the $10,000 know that you are going straight to hell.

  2. The pro-life movement will win in the end. It will just be through legal means, not vigilantism like in this case. In the meantime, something needs to be done to address the vandalism and firebombing directed at pro-life pregnancy centers.

  3. The only killers are the ones bombing clinics. You can tell alot about an argument by how loud people feel they need to speak it. Very telling your side needs fire and violence to speak it’s truth.

  4. A majority of the U.S. public disapproves of the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe. About six-in-ten Americans (62%) say abortion should be legal in all or most cases. Just look at the recent vote in Kansas. Your faith in the pro-life movement can’t beat the facts: most Americans are pro-choice.

  5. May I ask what polls your claim is based on? Not everyone in the population participates in polls, and there’s so many different organizations of differing opinions conducting polls. Partisan polls like on CNN or Fox News will reflect the opinion of their audience.

A recent Gallup poll I’ve seen suggests most Americans favor abortion only in certain cases (e.g., rape, incest, life of the mother) while favoring restrictions on abortion in other cases. And even if most people are pro-abortion in certain cases does not make it morally right, nor does it mean the pro-life cause is a lost one. With all the progress that’s being made in state legislatures, I’m optimistic for the future.
