Celebrate Public Transit Week

Loading

This is Nebraska Public Transit Week,  highlighting the pivotal role of public transit in fostering accessibility, sustainability and community connectivity across the state while showcasing the benefits and opportunities public transportation has to offer.

Chadron City Transit is joining in the celebration. Transit Director Julie Lawrence says each day has a special designation, all under the week-long theme of Mardi Gras.

Each ride on Chadron City Transit this week brings you a string of Mardi Gras beads, and there will be drawings for a total of 5 passes, one per person.

Lawrence encourages everyone to wear Mardi Gras attire today and Spin the Wheel to see how many free rides you earn.

Tomorrow offers free rides all day with the donation of a canned good to the Northwest Community Action Partnership Food Pantry.

Wednesday is Burger Day with free burgers from 11:30-1:00 at the Transit Office in the Marketplace on 2nd Street. Free will donations will be gladly accepted.

Transit Week wraps up Thursday with Driver Appreciation Day, a chance to show the drivers how much they’re appreciated.

Chadron’s celebration of Transit Week is shorter than usual because Friday is Arbor Day, which is a state holiday with Chadron City Transit not running.

Chadron City Transit is an on-demand system with residents calling or going online to order a pick-up. Rides are $1 for each segment.

There are also passes offering 22 rides for $20 but with a ride being the roundtrip from the pickup location to one or more destinations and back to the starting point.
