The Chadron boys and girls basketball teams dropped their opening games of the Western Conference Tournament, each falling to Gering in different fashion.
The Cardinal boys finished the first half on a 9-0 to trail Gering 24-21 at the break, but Gering’s Uriah Ybarra dominated the 2nd half with 26 points and 30 for the game of a 67-53 Bulldog win.
Gage Wild carried Chadron with 19 points and Broc Berry finished with 13.
The Chadron girls held an eight point lead at the half but watched Gering tied the game at 66-66 to end regulation before snatching a 78-74 victory in overtime.
Both Chadron squads will play Mitchell on Friday with the boys game at 3:30 and the girls at 5:00 pm. The boys game is in the Scottsbluff Auxiliary Gym and the girls game is at Gering High School. We will have both games on AM 610 KCSR and Chadrad.com.
