The Chadron High girls and boys basketball teams had split results on the first day of the Western Conference Tournament on Thursday at Scottsbluff High School.
The Chadron girls used 5 first half 3-pointers to build a 21-11 lead over Alliance and closed it out with a 9-for13 performance from the charity stripe in the second half for a 39-21 win.
Ashlyn Morrison and Makinley Fuller had 7 points a piece to lead the Cardinals offensive attack while six others got into the scoring column.
Chadron will face Sidney, an 88-4 winner over Arvada, CO, in the semifinals on Friday at WNCC’s Cougar Palace.
The Chadron boys went back and forth with Sterling, CO in a game that was tied at 21 at the half.
The Tigers caught fire in the second half from behind the arc and built a 35-27 lead, but Gage Wild came out with three straight three pointers to put the Cards ahead 36-35 early in the fourth.
A string of threes down the stretch from Sterling made the difference as Chadron fell 47-43.
Wild and Broc Berry finished with 11 points each and Xander Provance tallied 10.
The Cards will meet Arvada, CO in the consolation semifinals at 3:30 on Friday at Scottsbluff High School. Arvada was taken down by Scottsbluff 81-27.
